The Danish shot-stopper later shared a post on Instagram looking back on his journey to this point.
The 38-year-old reached the impressive milestone on Sunday, celebrating it with a crucial win secured in stoppage time by Daizen Maeda’s decisive header.
Although it wasn’t one of his standout displays for Celtic, Schmeichel still recognised the significance of the occasion and expressed his gratitude to fans in a sincere message yesterday morning.
Taking to Instagram, he said: “When you’re a kid, you dream of moments like your debut. Then you dream of scoring your first goal. Then lifting your first trophy. Then wearing your country’s shirt. Then hitting 100 games, then 250.”

“Yesterday I hit 900 professional matches for club and country. Something I could only have dreamed of back then. And what a way to do it with an injury time winner.”
“Grateful for every step, every challenge, every cheer. 900 and counting.”
Since arriving at Celtic last summer after leaving Anderlecht, Schmeichel has brought with him an illustrious career that features Premier League and FA Cup triumphs with Leicester City, along with more than 90 appearances for his country.
Though his recent performances for the Hoops have faced criticism — particularly after a howler against Braga last Thursday in the Europa League — hitting the 900-game mark is yet another milestone in his impressive career.

Schmeichel will be in action for Denmark over the next week with two huge games against Belarus and Greece as they battle it out with Scotland to reach the World Cup next summer.
Whether he will be a Celtic player by that time remains to be seen. He may also view it as a classy way out of his career –– when he will be 39 –– to finish playing for your country on the biggest stage of them all. It will be an interesting next nine months for Kasper.
