Kayke celebrates first goal and Memphis link-up after win

Corinthians defeated Capivariano 3-0 last Thursday night at the Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the Campeonato Paulista. The goals were scored by Gui Negão, Dieguinho, and Kayke, who found the net for the first time as a professional player for the club.

Author of Timão’s third goal, Kayke spoke in the mixed zone after the match and commented on the play that resulted in the goal, which resembled a goal he scored in the Copinha, finishing from outside the box. “I think it was really similar. It’s a characteristic of mine. I even told them there that the players always push me to shoot more from outside the box. And today I managed to hit a beautiful shot.”

The striker also highlighted his process of evolution throughout the season and the work developed under coach Dorival Júnior, emphasizing the confidence instilled by the coaching staff.

“I think it’s really about the work. We always try to evolve, learning from the older guys. And coach Dorival gives us a lot of calm so that when we get our opportunities, we can make the most of them.”

In addition to scoring his first goal as a professional, Kayke experienced a special moment by finding the net at the Arena, in front of the Fiel, in a play built with Memphis Depay.

“It’s a huge thrill. I think it’s a moment that will be marked for the rest of my life. And as you said, Memphis is a guy we’ve always followed since we were kids, and it will be memorable, I can only thank God for that.”

Regarding his relationship with the Dutch striker, the youngster revealed their closeness in daily life and the importance of the number 10 as a reference within the squad.

“We really look up to him, a guy who is a winner, who’s been through a lot, and having him in our group is a huge source of pride to be able to work with him, and we’re learning every day.”

Kayke also commented on the team’s change in attitude in the second half, when Corinthians was more offensively efficient and built up the big score.

“I think we created plenty of chances in the first half, but what was missing was killing off the game. In the second half, we were much more efficient and managed to do it.”

With three goals scored by homegrown players, the striker described the performance as collective and valued the work done within the squad.

“I think it was a magical night. Three goals by three youngsters. It’s the result of the work of a group.”

Asked about the arrival of new players for the attacking sector, Kayke said that the signings are important for the group and highlighted the internal atmosphere of healthy competition.

“I think it’s necessary for the group. He comes to work and help the group just as we will also keep dedicating ourselves to get our opportunities.”

Finally, the youngster once again praised Dorival Júnior, highlighting the confidence he has received since last year and the chances given to the squad’s players.

“I just have to thank Dorival, because he’s given me plenty of opportunities since last year. He’s been rotating the team well, giving chances to many players who hadn’t played before,” he concluded.
