Kelly Gago wants to join PSG this winter to return to France and be closer to family, but Everton are preventing a move despite her belief the club agreed she could leave in January. The 27-year-old is under contract until 2028.

According to L'Équipe, Gago joined Everton in January 2025 and impressed early, scoring five in 12 and making France’s Euro squad. Last summer, with PSG tracking a successor to Marie-Antoinette Katoto, she extended to 2028. A person close to her says the alternative was not playing until the end of her original 2027 deal.

Her season was marred by an incident in which she left training in tears after a fierce exchange with one of Brian Sorensen’s assistants. She kept training and playing while awaiting a winter exit.

In October 2025, Gago and her agent met Everton, when manager Brian Sorensen was said to have promised not to block a January move provided she did not join a domestic rival. She told the club she wanted PSG and Paris have pursued a deal, yet Everton have resisted.

She maintains she has behaved professionally, but says officials failed to attend a scheduled meeting with her agent earlier this week. She has sought support from the UNFP and FIFPRO, and a club doctor has deemed her unfit to train due to the strain of the dispute. She feels isolated and says the treatment is unjust.
