Manchester United are keeping an eye on Kennet Eichhorn, who has been making waves in Germany’s second tier at 16.
Both Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo have struggled under Ruben Amorim. Still, Ineos failed to strengthen the senior side’s midfield over the summer.
This has led to the United head coach relying on the ageing Casemiro, who has started eight of his side’s 10 Premier League games so far this season.
Interestingly, the club’s hierarchy have aggressively looked to improve their midfield options at the youth level in recent months.
United have already reached an agreement to sign Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF. The Colombian U17s captain will move to Manchester next summer.
The Red Devils are also reported to be working on signing Senegalese midfielder Mouhamed Dabo. Now, a report in Germany claims United are in the race for Eichhorn.
According to Sport Bild (via Mundo Deportivo), United have been regularly monitoring Eichhorn, who has become a key part of Hertha Berlin’s first-team squad.
The 16-year-old, regarded as one of Germany’s most coveted defensive midfielders, has made eight appearances in the Bundesliga 2 this campaign.
Nicknamed mini-Kroos, Eichhorn has also attracted interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain, among others. It is suggested that Hertha would consider parting ways with their midfield prodigy for a fee in the region of €20m.
Eichhorn is undoubtedly an exciting prospect, but his potential arrival is unlikely to help Amorim in the near future.
In that regard, another German midfielder, Angelo Stiller could prove to be a promising addition.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are the VfB Stuttgart star’s long-term admirers.
