If there was a blemish on Inter’s afternoon in Verona yesterday evening, it was an injury to defender Acerbi.

The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender started in Inter’s return to Serie A action from the international break.

However, Acerbi was only able to see out around fifteen minutes of the match.

The 36-year-old stretched to make a challenge and clear the ball. And it was immediately obvious after the tackle that he was in discomfort and would need to come off.

Stefan de Vrij replaced Acerbi right away as the Italian international had picked up an injury.

Francesco Acerbi Out For Inter Vs RB Leipzig Clash – Lautaro Also A Doubt

Initial assessments from Inter’s medical staff revealed that Acerbi had suffered a contracture to the thigh flexor muscles in his right leg.

This looks to be a similar injury to the one that the 36-year-old suffered in a Serie A match against Roma last month.

That injury saw Acerbi sidelined for a few matches, only returning against Napoli before the international break.

Now Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be holding his breath. The coach will hope that Acerbi isn’t out for too long.

Tomorrow, Acerbi will undergo tests with the Nerazzurri medical staff. These should shed more light on when the Italian might be able to return.

But what is abundantly clear is that Acerbi will not be in the Inter squad for their next match.

On Tuesday Inter face RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Acerbi is hardly going to be able to recover in just a couple days for that match.

Then, subsequent to that, Inter have matches against the likes of Fiorentina, Parma, and Bayer Leverkusen on the way.

Meanwhile, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez missed yesterday’s match against Verona due to flu-like symptoms.

The Argentine is touch-and-go for Tuesday’s clash with Leipzig. Of course, everything will depend on the progression of the virus he has.
