Kobbie Mainoo is open to leaving Manchester United this summer, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Manager Ruben Amorim prefers other midfielders, and Mainoo has opened the door to a potential Old Trafford exit.
The 20-year-old, who has only a year left on his current contract, has had limited first-team opportunities under Amorim this season.
The England international was an unused substitute in the opening two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Fulham.
Fans expected Amorim to introduce Mainoo in the second half against the Cottagers on Sunday, but he opted for a defensive substitution and kept him on the bench.
Amorim views the young midfielder as a back-up to Bruno Fernandes, and he is clearly unhappy with the secondary role.
Mainoo is one of the best talents to emerge from Man Utd’s academy in recent years.
Despite his young age, he has already made 72 senior appearances, bagging seven goals and two assists.
The Red Devils star is highly rated for his dribbling skills, tackling ability and ball control. He featured in 36 matches across all competitions last season.
United will be unwilling to lose one of their best young talents this summer, unless they receive a sizeable fee.
Mainoo fears his career will stagnate if he remains at Old Trafford and may leave before the transfer window closes.
