Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly reaffirmed his commitment to staying at the club and becoming a central figure under Ruben Amorim, despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding his contract situation.
Like most of his teammates, Mainoo endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign, in which the club finished a lowly 15th place, having suffered 18 top-flight defeats.
Mainoo enjoyed a fairytale breakthrough campaign the previous season but struggled to build on it, with his form dipping significantly. He was hampered by injuries and his inability to cement a regular spot in Amorim’s plans.
Still, the England international managed 34 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist in that period.
United have been locked in talks with Mainoo’s camp for months now in an effort to reach an agreement over a new deal. He has two years left on his current terms and United are keen to keep him at the club for the long term, but negotiations have hit a stumbling block over salary expectations.
However, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that there is optimism both parties will eventually strike a compromise and Mainoo will stay, despite interest from the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
According to GIVEMESPORT, United are confident Mainoo wants to get back to his best form at the club instead of seeking to join a new club this summer.
This follows recent talks between the 20-year-old and Amorim, during which Mainoo made it clear he is “desperate to succeed in his current surroundings.”
“Manchester United boss Amorim has held positive talks with Mainoo over his future since the end of the campaign, according to GMS sources, with it becoming clear that he is motivated to break into the forefront of his plans instead of agitating for a move during the summer transfer window.”
“GMS sources have been informed that Mainoo, whose game time during the 2024/25 campaign was restricted due to injury issues, is aiming to prove he should be part of Amorim’s first-choice central midfield pairing instead of being rotated in an advanced role as Manchester United prepare for their maiden full term under the Portuguese tactician.”
GMS add that Mainoo wants to “provide his doubters wrong” instead of actively seeking for a fresh start away from Old Trafford.
United have no desire to offload him despite the player not having a fixed role under Amorim.
