Manu Kone was interviewed by Corriere della Sera in the aftermath of the team’s win over Hellas Verona.
The midfielder was asked about the club’s objectives for the year as well as his personal impressions from his time at Roma so far.
“We’re doing well at the moment. We’re in first place and it feels good. But let’s not get too excited. Last year we started badly and then we paid for it in the end.”
“Our objectives? Finishing in the top four and winning the Europa League: we must be ambitious.”
“Gasperini? He is so many things. I’ve never seen anyone experience a match like this. It’s as if he were on the pitch. And it makes you want to fight for him.”
On Inter’s interest this summer, “If a club like Inter is interested in me, it’s a positive thing for me. I spoke to Gasperini about it, and I told him I didn’t know what would happen. But I added: “As long as I wear this shirt, I’ll do it 100%.” Roma is the only club that believed in me last summer, and it’s my duty to reciprocate this trust.”
“I was very happy at Roma, it’s not that I wanted to leave at all costs,” he added.
“I never stress before games. You know why? The game is the most joyful part of our job; we train all week to play. And why ruin it with stress? We might as well have fun while following the coach’s advice. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be demanding: I’m never happy with my performance, even though I’ve become consistent over time: I used to play well one week, and not the next.”
“The goals? They’ll come, I know I can do them and I have to improve. But the point is, with all the work we midfielders have to do, sometimes we arrive tired in front of goal and make mistakes.”
