Simon Adingra has joined AS Monaco on an initial loan, with the Ligue one club holding an option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee in the region of £15 million. Sunderland are understood to be covering an initial seven-figure loan fee as part of the agreement.
Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said the switch suits all parties, with Adingra having struggled for a regular place in Régis Le Bris’s starting XI during the first half of the season.
“When considering the balance and priorities of the squad, we felt this was a mutually agreeable opportunity that ensures Simon plays regularly throughout the second part of the season,” Speakman said.
“The stature of this move represents the quality and professional characteristics he possesses, in addition to his motivation to play every week. We wish Simon well and will monitor his progress closely.”
Sunderland are hoping to finalise a deal for Anderlecht winger Nilson Angulo as a replacement. The Black Cats have agreed an initial fee in the region of £15 million to sign the Ecuador international.
