According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are in talks to send Simon Adingra on loan to Ligue one side Monaco for the rest of the campaign, though the move is not done and may not be completed before the seven pm deadline.

Adingra has featured this season but has not held a regular place in Régis Le Bris’s starting XI. A switch is viewed as a route to minutes, with Romaine Mundle and Chemsdine Talbi fit after injury and AFCON.

Bertrand Traoré is sidelined, expected back in around three weeks, while Eliezer Mayenda, Chris Rigg and Habib Diarra are options out wide. January arrival Jocelin Ta Bi could push for contention in around a fortnight. Enzo Le Fée has been used on the left.

If he joins Monaco, a seven-figure loan fee is expected, along with an option to buy that would largely recoup what was paid to Brighton if triggered. He is not expected to be in the squad to face Burnley tonight if the transfer progresses.

The move hinges on Adil Aouchiche concluding a transfer to Schalke in Bundesliga two, as he takes one of the club’s six international loan slots. His recall from Aberdeen and permanent exit would free the space.

Sunderland will conclude more business, with Leo Hjelde in talks with Sheffield United over a potential loan. They have weighed up additions in central midfield and the wide areas, though a resolution on Lutsharel Geertruida’s future has somewhat eased the need even in Granit Xhaka’s absence.
