Kylian Mbappé played with plenty of star names at Paris Saint-Germain, including Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Edinson Cavani, and Ousmane Dembélé. However, the biggest name of all was undoubtedly Lionel Messi. Mbappé has now told Movistar Plus that he never expected to get the chance to play with the Argentina international.

At PSG, Mbappé played 67 times with Messi in all competitions. The pair combined for 34 goals during their two joint seasons at the club. Whilst the pair, along with the other big-name attacker, Neymar, helped Les Parisiens strengthen their dominance domestically, winning the Ligue 1 title in both seasons, they failed to take the club to the UEFA Champions League title.

Messi left in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer, joining Inter Miami, whilst Mbappé left one year later, also on a free transfer, joining Real Madrid. Given the latter’s dream of joining Los Blancos, playing with Messi is something that he never envisaged.

“I was lucky to be able to play with Leo Messi,” said the former AS Monaco forward, speaking while on international duty. “He is totally normal; he has respect for everyone. I never thought that I’d play with him because my dream was always Real Madrid. I never thought about joining Barcelona in my life.”
