Antonio Blanco joined the youth academy of Real Madrid in 2016. The midfielder progressed through all the youth levels before reaching Castilla and making his debut with the first team under Zinedine Zidane in 2021.
However, he did not manage to fully establish himself with the senior side and was first sent on loan to Cadiz. He later moved to Deportivo Alaves, initially on loan before joining them permanently, and is now a regular player with them.
In an interview with Estadio Deportivo (h/t AS), the midfielder spoke about the possibility of returning to Real Madrid, where he made only six senior appearances.
“Honestly, I have never thought about it. I think several years have passed and I have not thought about going back either. I was already there and I had the opportunity, and I think I did things well,” he said.
“Now I am at another point in my career and another stage where I feel very good and very comfortable where I am. In the end, you never know what the future will bring, but I think I have to do well every weekend and in the future we will see what happens.”

Blanco also reflected on how difficult it is for academy players to reach Real Madrid’s first team.
“We always know that there are good players. The other day Valdepenas had his opportunity, but the circumstances also have to line up. The full-backs got injured and the coach also has to put you in.
“But as I always say, there are very good players in the academy. We also have, for example, Yusi, who comes from the academy, a left-back with a lot of potential.
“It is very important and very good for the club that young players with potential continue to come through.”
Regarding his future and a possible contract renewal with Alaves, he said: “For now everything is the same. I have this year and another one left. I am very happy to be here and, as I always say, I hope to stay for many more years.
“I feel very appreciated, both by the club and by the fans and my team-mates. I feel very valued.”
