Last-second basket: Corinthians win again in Paulista de Basquete

On the evening of this Tuesday, the 9th, Corinthians returned to the court for another game in the São Paulo Basketball Championship. In the opening of the competition's realignment phase, the Alvinegro hosted São José at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, seeking to recover from a negative phase in recent matches. And they succeeded, winning 72 x 71 with a basket in the final seconds of the duel.

Still unable to count on Elyjah Clark, coach Jece Leite sent an initial quintet to the court composed of Elinho, Davaunta Thomas, Munford, Victão, and Gabriel Novaes. On the bench, the People's Team had Tico Faria, Lucas Cardoso, Lucas Cauê, Cauê Borges, Kaique, Kauan Raymundo, and Jamelão available.

Corinthians started the match well, opening a good lead early on with three-point baskets from Davaunta Thomas and Elinho, maintaining it for most of the first period. São José attempted a comeback, but Timão curbed the visitors' momentum, and with interventions from Munford and Victão in the attack, managed to secure a partial victory of 23 x 15 at the end of the period.

In the second stage, however, the Alvinegro's performance dropped, and São José reacted, first tying the game at 25 points and, after seeing the Corinthians retake the lead, caught up again and eventually turned the game around, going into halftime with a partial victory of 36 x 33, putting pressure on Corinthians.

The second half was extremely balanced on both sides, with both teams alternating in the lead. In the third quarter, highlights included Gabriel Novaes, Munford, Victão, and Thomas, who helped Corinthians remain competitive and compensated for errors made both in attack and defense. Even so, the visitors remained ahead, winning 54 x 52 in the quarter.

In the final ten minutes, Corinthians rebalanced their basketball, and after seeing São José open a six-point lead, they reacted with three-point shots from Tico Farias and Elinho. The score remained undecided until the end, when Gabriel Novaes scored with three seconds left, and Elinho stopped São José's attack in the last play to secure Corinthians' victory by 72 x 71 at Wlamir Marques.

Now, Timão returns to the court only next Thursday, the 11th, against Mogi Basquete, for the second round of the São Paulo Championship realignment phase. The match will take place again at 8 p.m. (Brasília time) at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium.
