Lazio agree deal with Gennaro Gattuso, one-year contract and option revealed | OneFootball

Lazio have reached a full agreement with Gennaro Gattuso and he is set to be appointed soon as head coach.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports that the 48-year-old will sign a one-year contract with an option for a second, worth €1.5 million net plus bonuses.

The club are on the verge of parting with Maurizio Sarri after a tumultuous campaign marred by issues on and off the pitch. The 67-year-old repeatedly clashed with president Claudio Lotito in the media, and he is expected to sign for Atalanta.

Lazio had weighed up Raffaele Palladino, Fabio Pisacane and Sergio Conceicao, but on Monday it emerged they had struck a deal with Gattuso, a long-time favourite of Lotito. An announcement is expected once Sarri’s contract is terminated.

Gattuso has been unattached since leaving the Italian national team after missing out on a World Cup place.

Lotito previously tried to bring him in during October 2019 when Lazio trailed 0-3 to Atalanta, with Gattuso reportedly en route to Rome before Simone Inzaghi salvaged a draw with a second-half comeback.

He was also considered before the club appointed Marco Baroni in June 2024, and again last summer ahead of Sarri’s return to Formello.
