Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri held a meeting with president Claudio Lotito on Friday as the club begins to plan for the January transfer window. The 66-year-old tactician made his return to the club for a second spell last summer, but the management wasn’t able to fulfil his demands on the market due to a transfer ban.

Lazio Lay January Plans

Nevertheless, the club directors are expecting to receive a green light from the new supervisory committee that replaced COVISOC, although it remains unclear whether the ban will be completely lifted or if the Biancocelesti will be forced to operate within zero-cost parameters.

Either way, Lazio will surely intervene in the market this winter, as the squad is in dire need of reinforcement. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Sarri and Lotito have laid the groundwork for the January transfer session in a meeting that took place at Formello on Friday. As the source explains, the two men identified the three playing roles that must be bolstered.

Mattia Zaccagni’s Understudy

First of all, the manager has requested a new left winger who can take some of the burden off Mattia Zaccagni’s shoulders. It has been well-documented that Lorenzo Insigne is Sarri’s ultimate first choice for this role, but the source claims that the former Napoli captain wasn’t explicitly mentioned.

Sarri Seeking Two New Midfielders

Moreover, the Aquile will be looking to make two additions in the middle of the park. The first is a box-to-box midfielder capable of playing on the left side, and the second is a deep-lying playmaker. The latter has become a necessity due to Nicolo Rovella’s ongoing groin struggles, which have now forced him to undergo surgery.

While these three additions are considered compulsory, Lazio would also sign a left-back if Nuno Tavares ends up leaving the club, and a goalkeeper if they cash in on Christos Mandas.
