Lazio Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Unfortunately for Lazio, their start to the season has been well below expectations. Their first appearance saw them outplayed by Como, but they managed to rebound by making short work of Hellas Verona in their maiden home fixture. Nevertheless, the Biancocelesti were dealt back-to-back losses against Sassuolo and Roma.

While the Derby della Capitale defeat is always a difficult pill to swallow, Maurizio Sarri’s men were able to earn a rebound victory at the expense of Genoa last Monday, putting three goals past the hapless Grifone to elevate themselves to 12th place in the Serie A standings. Despite their selection crisis, Lazio have the opportunity to open a winning streak, as their visitors are enduring all sorts of hardships.

Torino Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

After leaving Lazio at the end of the previous campaign, Baroni opted for an immediate new challenge, accepting the Granata hot seat. However, the 62-year-old has already tasted three heavy defeats in the first five rounds of the Serie A campaign, a 0-5 pummelling at the hands of Inter Milan, a 3-0 loss to Atalanta, and most recently, a 1-2 setback against Parma. They now find themselves 15th in the table.

Curiously, Torino’s solitary league win this season ensued at the Stadio Olimpico, when they pulled off a shocking upset at Roma’s expense. Therefore, it would be interesting to see if Baroni will be able to complete the double on a ground he knows like the back of his hand.

Lazio vs Torino: Match Insights

  1. Lazio still seeking a winning streak: The Aquile have the opportunity to win two Serie A matches in a row for the first time since early February, when they beat Cagliari and Venezia in back-to-back contests.
  2. Lazio’s recent dominance over Torino: The Biancocelesti are undefeated in their last four meetings with the Granata, winning three and drawing one. Moreover, they have only suffered one defeat in their last 12, registering six wins and five draws.
  3. Sarri and Baroni even-steven: The two managers faced one another on six previous occasions. They have each registered two wins, two draws and two losses.

Expected Starting Lineups

Lazio (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Hysaj, Gila, Romagnoli, Nuno Tavares; Cataldi, Basic; Cancellieri, Dia, Zaccagni; Castellanos.

Torino (3-4-2-1): Israel; Coco, Maripan, Dembele; Lazaro, Casadei, Asllani, Nkounkou; Ngonge, Vlasic; Simeone

Predictions: Lazio 3-1 Torino

Lazio are still missing key players in midfield, especially Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi, but the switch to 4-2-3-1 has thus far paid dividends. On the other hand, Torino have yet to find their tactical identity under their new manager.

While Baroni will be looking to unleash the sort of chaos his teams thrive in, the Aquile’s attacking foursome (Castellanos, Dia, Zaccagni and Cancellieri) could prove too much for his shaky defence.
