Leeds United beat Burnley 3-1 under the Elland Road lights, piling pressure on 18th-placed Spurs. The win took Leeds to 43 points and above Newcastle into 14th before they faced Brighton on Saturday, with Tottenham nine adrift and four to play.
According to yorkshireevenpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke's name rang around at full-time. The tally should be enough in its own right, and Leeds could yet add more in their final three fixtures.
The display was imperfect but effective, comprising a long-range strike from Anton Stach, a slick move and a scrappy finish. Leeds now have as many goals this season as Aston Villa.
Stach, back after two and a half weeks out and only 45 minutes against Chelsea, was a little surprised to start, then set the tone with another cracker. He has looked Premier League quality in his debut campaign.
Referee Thomas Bramall delivered the worst display of the season at Elland Road. Farke's frustration grew during the first half, and several players felt his ire too.
Hannibal Mejbri was booed before kick-off, disappeared down the tunnel for a spell in the first half, then argued with grounds staff about sprinklers at half-time. On the pitch he was dumped by Ethan Ampadu, then booked after a challenge on Brenden Aaronson, and left promptly at full-time.
Chairman Paraag Marathe and senior figures toured the pitch after meeting the Supporters Advisory Board pre-match. Former chairman Andrea Radrizzani attended, embraced Marathe in the West Stand and posed for a photo with his son.
