Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka started for Japan in a pre-World Cup friendly win, while Noah Okafor missed out injured and Brenden Aaronson stayed on the bench, with Gabi Gudmundsson awaiting action. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds have four players bound for this summer’s World Cup, and three of their nations played on Sunday.

Tanaka was named in the XI against Iceland and played 78 minutes as Japan won 1-0.

Okafor, selected by Switzerland for the World Cup, sat out the 4-1 friendly win over Jordan at St Gallen’s Kybunpark because of a calf problem. On Saturday evening, Switzerland said he was still struggling, though coach Murat Yakin was not concerned about his long-term availability.

Aaronson returned to the USA camp on Saturday after getting married on Friday. He was an unused substitute in Sunday evening’s 3-2 friendly victory over Senegal at the Bank Of America Stadium.

Left back Gabi Gudmundsson completes the Leeds quartet and is with Sweden, who face hosts Norway on Monday in a 6pm kick-off.
