Ao Tanaka started in Japan’s 1-0 win over Iceland as Leeds United’s World Cup-bound quartet stepped up preparations, while Noah Okafor and Brenden Aaronson did not feature.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Tanaka started and played 78 minutes in Sunday’s friendly, a pre-World Cup boost for Japan.

Switzerland beat Jordan 4-1 at St Gallen’s Kybunpark, with Okafor absent due to a calf injury. On Saturday evening it was revealed that Okafor was still struggling with a calf injury, though coach Murat Yakin was not worried about his long-term availability.

USA then faced Senegal at the Bank of America Stadium on Sunday evening. Aaronson, who returned to camp on Saturday after his Friday wedding, was on the bench but went unused in a 3-2 win.

Left back Gabi Gudmundsson completes the Leeds contingent heading to the World Cup with Sweden, who face hosts Norway in a friendly on Monday evening, kick-off 6pm.
