Leeds United are set to reignite their pursuit of AC Milan striker Santiago Giménez this summer as they seek extra firepower up front.
The 24-year-old joined Milan from Feyenoord for £28m last February and has seven goals in 30 appearances. Football Insider reports that Leeds see value if he proves his fitness in the coming months, having considered him during his Feyenoord spell.
The plan reflects a drive to strengthen a frontline that has leaned on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha. Calvert-Lewin has 10 goals and Nmecha seven, and the club want additional threat.
Giménez’s Eredivisie return of 65 goals in 105 games highlights his upside, although an ankle injury means he still needs to prove his fitness. Il Messaggero claims Milan would accept around £26m, a small loss on their outlay.
Any deal could mark a step forward in Leeds’ attempt to consolidate Premier League status rather than simply survive. It would hinge on them staying in the top flight, and they are 15th at present.
