Leeds United have confirmed goalkeeper Karl Darlow has left at the end of his contract. He has opted to join Manchester United as back-up. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 35-year-old rejected a new Elland Road deal that did not guarantee the number one role.

Darlow arrived ahead of 2023/24 and made his debut in a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town. He then provided competition within Daniel Farke’s squad.

In the following campaign he started the final seven Championship matches, six of which Leeds won, sealing the title at Plymouth Argyle on the final day of a record-breaking season.

That same term brought his Wales debut in a 2-1 away win over Montenegro. He now has 15 caps and has established himself as Cymru’s number one.

Back in the Premier League, Darlow featured 22 times and won April’s Save of the Month for denying Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ladislav Krejci from point-blank range. He leaves with 38 Leeds appearances in total and was part of the side that secured top-flight survival last term.

The club hailed his professionalism and community work. Leeds intend to recruit another goalkeeper, with Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns currently available until a new signing arrives.
