Former Leeds United favourite Andrew Hughes has joined Athletic Club's coaching staff.
The club said in a statement that the Englishman will be the set-piece specialist and is due to join the team on Monday, after performing the same role with Scotland at the World Cup. They highlighted his previous coaching posts at Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Bolton Wanderers.
Earlier this month Athletic appointed 43-year-old Edin Terzic as head coach, with Hughes part of his backroom team.
Hughes spent three years at Leeds between 2007 and 2010, making 139 appearances in all competitions. He helped Simon Grayson’s side win promotion from League One in 2009/10.
After retiring in 2015 he moved into coaching across the EFL, most recently at Leicester City.
Athletic were also home to Marcelo Bielsa, who led a memorable Europa League last-32 first-leg 3-2 win at Manchester United before a 2-1 victory in Bilbao to knock Sir Alex Ferguson’s side out.
The Bilbao club finished 12th in La Liga last season, six places above relegated Mallorca, with only three points between them.
