Leeds United are keeping a close eye on Mainz 05 left-back Anthony Caci and are ‘clearly interested’ in recruiting his services this summer, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Elland Road club are likely to lose Junior Firpo in the coming weeks, and the Frenchman has emerged as a potential replacement as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

However, Leeds are not the only club keen on Caci, who ‘was a delight throughout the season’, with Fulham, Borussia Dortmund and Rennes all looking to snap him up.

The 27-year-old ended this season with seven assists and a goal in 35 appearances. His ability to play as a centre-back and right-back appears to have appealed to Leeds manager Daniel Farke.

The ‘fantastic‘ Caci is capable of constantly delivering good crosses into the box, which is a quality Leeds need if they want to succeed in the English top-flight.

His performances were key as Mainz finished sixth in the Bundesliga and qualified for the Europa Conference League.

The opportunity to join Dortmund to play Champions League football could be very appealing to him.

Leeds offer Premier League football, and a move there could boost his chances of breaking into the French national team.

Caci will also be guaranteed a spot in their starting XI if Firpo leaves, and the Yorkshire club will hope he joins them ahead of other suitors.
