Stade Rennais see FSV Mainz’s Anthony Caci (27) as the successor to VfB Stuttgart-bound full-back Lorenz Assignon, according to a report from Foot Mercato, however, they may face some stern Premier League competition.
Assignon, a starter at right-back last season, is already in Germany in order to complete his medical and put pen to paper on a deal to join Stuttgart. That deal is expected to be concluded imminently. In the meantime, Rennes are working on signing his successor. The club have set their sights on Mainz’s Caci, whose contract at the Bundesliga side expires at the end of next season.
Whilst his current club have not given up hope of extending his deal, there are plenty of suitors for the €10m-rated defender. As well as Rennes, Leeds United, Fulham, and Borussia Dortmund are all also interested in the Frenchman. Freiburg’s Kiliann Sildillia is seen as a plan B by the Breton club.
