Leeds United have been fined over £500,000 this season for nine breaches of Premier League Rule L.33 covering kick-offs and half-time restarts. The Premier League confirmed a sanction agreement with the club after repeated delays this season.
Leeds accepted responsibility for delays ranging from one minute 17 seconds to two minutes 50 seconds. In the Everton home game and the trips to Brighton and Forest, both kick-off and restart were late.
The affected games included Everton, Newcastle United and Fulham at Elland Road, plus away matches at Fulham, Burnley, Brighton and Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Brentford. Escalating penalties ran from £10,000 for the first offence to £100,000 for the eighth, taking the total to £530,000 by the delayed Fulham home match.
The timing rules are designed to underpin professional standards, give certainty to supporters and clubs, and keep broadcasts on schedule. Leeds have apologised for the breaches and said improving compliance with Rule L.33 is now a key objective for staff and players.
Under the agreement, any further delay of one minute to one minute 30 seconds will bring a £100,000 fine. Over 90 seconds will be £130,000, and over two minutes £170,000. Each successive breach adds £20,000, with caps of £200,000 up to two minutes 30 seconds and £250,000 beyond that.
Leeds United were approached for comment.
