Leeds United have been fined more than £500,000 this season after nine breaches of Premier League Rule L.33 covering kick-offs and half-time restarts.
The Premier League confirmed it had entered into a sanction agreement with the club after repeated delays to kick-offs and restarts, which Leeds accepted had been caused without good reason.
The matches cited were home fixtures against Everton, Newcastle United and Fulham, and away games at Fulham, Burnley, Brighton and Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Brentford.
Delays ranged from one minute 17 seconds to two minutes 50 seconds, with both kick-off and the restart held up in the Everton home game and the trips to Brighton and Forest. Financial penalties escalate from £10,000 for a first offence to £100,000 for the eighth, taking the total to £530,000 after the Fulham home match was delayed by just under 90 seconds.
Any further delay of between one minute and one minute 30 seconds will trigger a £100,000 fine. Over 90 seconds will cost £130,000, and delays beyond two minutes £170,000, with an extra £20,000 for each successive breach. Caps of £200,000 and £250,000 apply to delays up to two minutes 30 seconds and beyond that mark respectively.
Leeds have accepted and apologised for the breaches and made improved compliance with Rule L.33 a key objective for staff and players. Leeds United were approached for comment.
