Leeds United teenager Harry Gray has returned to Thorp Arch for hamstring treatment during his Rotherham United loan, but his season is not over, his new manager says.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 17-year-old had been ever present since a January move to aid the Millers’ survival push, but missed the midweek defeat to Peterborough United. The following day Matt Hamshaw was sacked and Lee Clark appointed.

Clark said a short spell back at the parent club for rehab is standard for young loanees, noting Leeds’ facilities and proximity. He is hopeful Gray could be available for the next group of matches after Saturday, so the forward will miss the opening couple of weeks of his tenure.

Hamshaw rated Gray highly and Rotherham all but guaranteed him minutes to seal the loan in January. Clark wants the youngster involved again quickly and views him as an exciting prospect, while acknowledging injuries have blighted the squad. He said he already knows his team for Saturday and hopes to welcome players back for the remaining eight games to help finish the job.

Rotherham visit league-leading Lincoln City on Saturday, managed by former Leeds coach Michael Skubala. Stevenage then head to New York Stadium. Gray’s issue is thought to be relatively minor and should keep him out for two to three weeks at most.
