Yorath joined Leeds in 1967 and spent nine years at Elland Road. He won the 1973/74 First Division under Don Revie and helped the club reach the 1973 Cup Winners’ Cup final and the 1975 European Cup final.

He made his debut against Burnley at Turf Moor on 11 May 1968. His first Leeds goal came against Newcastle United on 1 September 1971 in a 5-1 home league win staged at Hillsborough.

That 1973/74 campaign featured a Football League record 29-match unbeaten start.

He later moved to Coventry City, then played for Tottenham Hotspur, Vancouver Whitecaps, Bradford City and Swansea City, and won 59 Wales caps.

After retiring in 1986, he was a familiar presence at Elland Road on matchdays for years.

He later managed Swansea, Cardiff City, Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday, Lebanon and Wales.

His children described him as a quiet, kind and gentle man and said they took comfort that he would be reunited with their brother, Daniel.

Yorath’s daughter, broadcaster Gabby Logan, left BBC’s Match of the Day during Wednesday’s programme and was replaced by Mark Chapman.
