Leeds are pushing to sign Shea Charles, with an improved bid reported and a sell-on clause influencing Southampton’s stance.

According to Daily Mail, Elland Road have lodged an offer worth an initial £23m plus add-ons, after an opening £20m proposal last month was rejected but talks continued.

Southampton are thought to value the midfielder at £30m, and Leeds hope performance-related add-ons can bridge the gap. That would suggest extras below £7m, although no figure has been specified.

A sell-on agreed when Charles joined from Manchester City in 2023 is a factor. The £15m signing includes City receiving 15 per cent of any future sale, and they hold buyback rights to match any accepted bid.

It is unclear whether the 15 per cent applies to the total fee or to profit on Southampton’s £15m outlay, but a meaningful slice would need to be passed on.

Interest from Crystal Palace has also been reported, while Daniel Farke is seeking to bolster midfield options. Despite being just 22, the Northern Ireland international has significant experience, with three years at Southampton yielding 106 Championship games, 43 on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
