Leeds United have renewed links with January target Danilo Doekhi, who is out of contract this summer after an ever-present Bundesliga season for Union Berlin.

Fabrizio Romano says the 27-year-old is ‘set to leave’ Union Berlin when the season ends, with interest in the centre-back rising after an impressive 2025/26 campaign.

Leeds assessed the Dutch defender in January but made no further progress. He has played every league minute this season and scored five goals from centre-back while running down his contract.

Competition would be fierce if Leeds revisit the idea. Borussia Dortmund are believed to be keen on the six ft 3 ins right-footer, while clubs in Saudi Arabia are also monitoring him.

Doekhi fits recent Elland Road profiles, strong in duels and comfortable on the right or the middle of a back three. Leeds are relatively well covered on that side with Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol, and James Justin or Sebastiaan Bornauw can step in.

Uncertainty lies to the left, where Pascal Struijk is the only natural left-footed centre-back and will enter the final 12 months of his deal this summer. As a free agent, Doekhi could offer a low-risk and low-cost addition.
