Leeds United summer transfer target Julian Brandt has been seen training at former club Bayer Leverkusen alongside Arsenal striker Kai Havertz, with a decision on his next move still pending.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Brandt’s father Jurgen visited Thorp Arch for talks, although Leeds face competition for the free agent attacking midfielder. He is also thought to be leaning towards a Premier League move.

Brandt, 30, left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season after seven years at Signal Iduna Park, where he played more than 300 games including in the Champions League.

With no club pre-season to join, he returned to Leverkusen, where he first broke into senior football. He spent six years at the BayArena before a €25million switch to Dortmund in 2019.

Images on Tuesday showed him working at Leverkusen’s training facility with Havertz. The pair were team-mates at Die Werkself between 2016 and 2019.

Brandt made 215 appearances for Leverkusen, scoring 42 goals and providing 52 assists, and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in his final campaign there.

He followed up with 57 goals and 70 assists in 307 outings for Dortmund, earned another Team of the Season place in 2022/23, lifted the DFB-Pokal and played in a Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
