Leicester docked six Championship points for profit and sustainability breach

Leicester City have been docked six Championship points after an independent commission found a breach of the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules for 2023/24, with the sanction applied immediately. The deduction leaves Leicester 20th on 32 points, outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

The club said in a statement that it was disappointed and would consider its next steps. It argued the recommendation was disproportionate, despite the panel cutting the scale initially sought by the Premier League, and noted the panel accepted FY24 compliance be assessed over 36 months, identified no aggravating factors and recognised an improving FY24 trend, giving greater certainty for FY25.

The sanction was recommended by an independent commission and ratified by the EFL board. The commission was appointed under Premier League rules last May, after an arbitration tribunal ruled jurisdiction to investigate alleged EFL breaches could transfer to the Premier League following promotion to the top flight in 2024.

The panel found Leicester exceeded the P&S threshold by £20.8m across the three-year assessment period ending 2023/24. The club were also found to have breached Premier League rules by failing to supply annual accounts when requested.

Saints face the Foxes twice this month, visiting King Power in the league on Tuesday, 10 February, before hosting them in the FA Cup four days later.
