Leny Yoro: Man United star pinpoints key difference this season

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro believes that Ruben Amorim’s time as manager is finally coming with recent improved results.

United career

The young French defender joined United in the summer of 2024 in spite of huge competition from Real Madrid.

An injury in pre-season delayed his debut but once he made his first start, he didn’t look back, becoming a mainstay in the centre of defence.

Yoro was one of the most impressive players last season with numerous defensive performances oozing class.

Emotional season last year

The Guardian has conducted an interview with the 19 year old and he opened up on the emotions of last season.

He claimed, “everyone knows last season was a really emotional season. Not just for the coach, for everyone. It was tough, honestly, it was tough for us to sometimes face the games, face training. So everyone was emotional, to be honest.”

Yoro claimed that this year is different though as the lack of Champions League has given the team more time to train and have “freedom” in their heads.

He also defended manager Ruben Amorim by claiming, “the coach is not different than last year, it’s just the result that is different. And every footballer knows when you win on the day, you have a really perfect week after. It’s more about the result in the head. It’s not as emotional as last year.”

Importance of European football

While focusing on the positives of no European football, Yoro is well aware that a club the size of United must be competing next year with the continent’s best.

The youngster explained, “when you’re in Manchester United, you need to play in Europe, especially with what happened last year. Everyone knows our idea is to be in the top, to be in the Champions League, of course. I think we can reach it. When you’re at Manchester United, you need to think about this. It’s really important for us this year to achieve this, and this is in the mind of everyone.”

Different characters

A criticism often aimed at the dressing room in recent years is the amount of bad apples in the cart that have often derailed the team unity.

Yoro claims that the club has been working hard on eradicating this issue and the result is a much healthier and united group.

He claimed, “the character is really important, for the atmosphere of the team. I think the club is doing well with this, to take only people who can bring good things to the team. We don’t want any bad things in the team. It’s really important for us to be focused on the team, don’t do any drama. Just speak with everyone, have a good relationship. This is the best, I think, for the team.”

Yoro explained that it is impossible to build anything with “bad energy or bad atmosphere or bad characters.”

He also reassured fans that there are no cliques and that everyone in the group is friends with one another and they all want to move in the same positive trajectory.
