Managing director for sport Simon Rolfes praised Omlin’s international pedigree, noting he has proved his quality in Switzerland, France and the Bundesliga.

Rolfes said Omlin completes their goalkeeping trio alongside Janis Blaswich and Niklas Lomb, leaving the squad well equipped for the weeks and months ahead.

Omlin has been second choice at Borussia Mönchengladbach this season, behind Moritz Nicolas.

He said he is delighted Leverkusen are putting their trust in him, calling it a chance to support a Champions League club with big ambitions and help achieve shared goals.
