James hamstring issue ‘not serious’ as Trevoh Chalobah out for six weeks
Chelsea have been boosted after early assessments showed Reece James’ latest hamstring injury is “not serious”.
James missed Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain after sustaining an injury in last weekend’s Premier League defeat by Newcastle.
He is facing another spell on the sidelines and his injury is a major blow for Chelsea.
But the Blues are hopeful James will be able to return to play a part in the run-in as they chase Champions League qualification.
Speaking on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s trip to Everton, Rosenior said: “Reece we’re going to look at more after the international break. It’s not serious but there is something in his hamstring.”
Rosenior also confirmed Trevoh Chalobah faces six weeks out with the ankle injury he suffered against PSG.
Chalobah posted a nasty-looking image of his twisted ankle on social media but his injury is not as bad as first feared.
Rosenior said: “It wasn’t until later after the game that I saw the image. Then you’re really worried for the next game.
“Fortunately it’s nowhere near as serious as we first feared. It’s still a serious injury. We’re looking at a period of about six weeks, which is a better period than we first thought.”
Filip Jorgensen remains sidelined after minor groin surgery.
Rosenior said: “He had his scan and needed a minor operation. That’s a matter of weeks.”
Rosenior also provided an update on Levi Colwill, as he continues his recovery from the serious knee injury he sustained in pre-season.
“With an ACL, he’s hitting all the benchmarks he needs to,” said Rosenior. “He’s still looking at a good while yet. Hopefully [he can play this season].”
