Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has announced that he has “mutually agreed” to end his contract with FC Seoul, confirming he will depart the club next week.

The 32-year-old moved to the K League side on a free transfer in February 2024 and has featured 66 times, scoring 18 goals. His final outing will come on Wednesday against Melbourne City in the AFC Champions League.

“My time in South Korea has been unbelievable - the football, the atmosphere and the passion around this club have been top class,” Lingard wrote on Instagram, external.

“The love, support and the appreciation you have shown towards me for these last two years has been truly amazing.

"I'll always be grateful for the opportunity to play for such a massive club."

In a statement, FC Seoul confirmed that Lingard had “conveyed his desire to move on to the next stage of his football career”.

Lingard, who played 232 games for Manchester United, has yet to reveal his next destination.

Although he leaves South Korea without lifting a trophy, Lingard contributed to FC Seoul securing fourth place in his first season — their best league finish since 2019 — and they wrapped up the 2025 campaign in sixth.

“He generated an extraordinary level of public attention and emerged as a symbolic figure not only for the club but for the entire K League,” the club added.

After bringing an end to his two-decade spell at Manchester United, Lingard initially struggled in Seoul, missing a significant part of his debut campaign due to injury and drawing criticism from his manager. However, he eventually became an influential presence and was later handed the captain’s armband.
