Starting Argentina’s round-of-32 meeting with Cape Verde at midnight, Lionel Messi became the first player to reach 30 World Cup matches.

A Barcelona academy graduate, Messi could also become the first player to score 20 World Cup goals.
For France, Hugo Lloris leads with 20 appearances, ahead of Antoine Griezmann on 19.
Kylian Mbappé has 18, level with Raphaël Varane and Olivier Giroud, and could surpass Lloris during this edition.
