According to Telegraph, Liverpool have agreed a deal worth around £60 million to sign Jérémy Jacquet, while Arsenal are closing in on Hearts’ Scotland international James Wilson.

Chelsea made the early running for the Rennes defender but he has since emerged as a top target at Anfield.

Jacquet, 20, is expected to cost £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons, and Rennes hope to keep him for the remainder of the campaign as they pursue European qualification.

The France Under-21 international is a ball-playing centre-back who can also operate at right-back. That profile would suit Arne Slot as he deals with a shortage of defenders, but talks have been over a summer move rather than an immediate switch.

Arsenal have been steadily adding prospects to their under-21s, and Wilson looks set to be the latest arrival.

The Premier League window closes at seven pm, but deals can still be completed after the deadline if a deal sheet has been submitted by the clubs.
