Liverpool have scheduled medical tests for Jeremy Jacquet ahead of his move to Anfield in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have reportedly agreed a deal worth up to £60 million to sign the centre-back from Rennes.
The 20-year-old is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year.
According to The Times, Jacquet will undergo a medical on Monday, although Liverpool are in no rush to complete the deal before the deadline as he will arrive in the summer.
The Merseyside outfit, who beat Chelsea to the signing, see the France youth international as a long-term purchase rather than one that can improve the squad immediately. He is set to replace Ibrahima Konate, whose is expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The report adds that Liverpool had looked at signing Sunderland defender Lutsharel Geertruida on loan, but talks “hit the buffers” after the Black Cats could not procure a replacement.
Geertruida, who is on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig, was “keen on the move” and reuniting with Arne Slot after playing under the Dutch head coach at Feyenoord.
Meanwhile, Calvin Ramsey could leave on loan if Liverpool receive a “suitable offer”, per The Athletic. The right-back has not made an appearance for the club since the League Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in October.
