Liverpool will welcome back several first-teamers for Sunday’s pre-season meeting with Leeds United in Chicago, with a £60million summer arrival expected to feature. Joe Gomez, however, is sidelined and will miss the game.
Leeds round off their US tour at Solder Field, kick-off 9pm UK time. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, both teams come in off 1-0 wins, Leeds beating Sunderland through a Lukas Nmecha goal and Liverpool seeing off Wrexham.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are back in Liverpool training. Andoni Iraola said his idea is to hand them, and summer signing Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, their first minutes against Leeds, with game time managed and dependent on fitness.
Jacquet is expected to make his Liverpool debut, which is timely given a shortage of experience at centre-back. Virgil van Dijk has not joined the America tour after his World Cup exertions, while Giovani Leoni has been sidelined for almost a year.
Gomez went off with a muscle problem 10 minutes into the opener against Sunderland, then missed the win over Wrexham. Iraola said the defender faces weeks out and it is likely impossible for him to make the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season, although recovery time could vary around a month.
Leeds also have fitness concerns. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol have yet to feature in the US, Sebastiaan Bornauw returned to start against Sunderland and goalkeeper Lucas Perri missed out with a knock.
