Leoni’s injury means Arne Slot has only got Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez available as fit centre-back options - as well as reserve defender Rhys Williams.
But with Konate out of contract in 2026, it would be no surprise to see the club add another centre-back either in January or else next summer.
Outgoings however could ALSO become apparent with Gomez potentially the next player to leave.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with AC Milan towards the end of the summer transfer window - coming close to making the move to San Siro on deadline day.
The England man - out of contract in 2027 - stayed put as Hughes was unable to source an alternative.
According to Calciomercato, the Rossoneri could come back in January for the long-serving Liverpool defender. The Milanese giants have made a great start to the Serie A season under Max Allegri - and are seeking to add to their defensive depth.
“AC Milan continues to show interest in Joe Gomez: in the final days of the last transfer window, the English defender was on the verge of a move to Italy” the report reads.

“The deal fell through due to Liverpool's inability to find a suitable replacement before the transfer window closed.
“AC Milan are reportedly ready to make a comeback in January, capitalizing on the Merseyside club's poor use of the 1997-born defender.”
Gomez has managed only half an hour of Premier League football thus far - playing for around 20 minutes against Bournemouth on matchday two and managing around 10 against Arsenal.
It would be a surprise if he signed a new deal given how little football he’s playing - meaning Liverpool are running out of time to make any money on Gomez in the transfer market.
