Liverpool have gone all-out to try and sign one vital star. The Reds want to get this over the line.
The summer transfer window hasn't been closed all that long but Liverpool are well under way planning for 2026. There will be two transfer windows to attack - and both are vitally important.
The January one has new importance, of course, after Giovanni Leoni's knee injury. That leaves Liverpool down to just three senior options at centre-back.
It's a situation that the Reds can't leave alone. They'll need extra cover there, especially when Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have less-than-stellar injury records.
Then there's the extra factor of Konate's contract. That's expiring at the end of the season and Liverpool don't appear to be on the brink of agreeing a new one.
Any new signing must be made with the suspicion that Konate could leave. Hence why the club did what they could to sign Marc Guehi.
Liverpool pushed and pushed to sign Guehi at the end of the summer window, only for Crystal Palace to collapse the deal at the last minute. It leaves the player on a expiring contract himself, and with plenty of suitors.
That's the difficult thing now. Liverpool very much want to sign Guehi but the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are all linked now that he's close to leaving for free.
But the Reds remain steadfast in their belief that they can get Guehi. That's according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.
