Dominik Szoboszlai suggested that Liverpool have lost their winning mentality after they twice squandered winning positions to draw 3-3 with Leeds.

A quickfire brace from Hugo Ekitike gave the Reds the lead at Elland Road, but they were pulled back by Daniel Farke’s men when Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach scored twice in as many minutes soon after.

Szoboszlai gave his side the lead once more ten minutes from time, only for Ao Tanaka to equalise again in the 96th minute.

Speaking post-match, Szoboszlai said: "I don't know what happened after 2-0. I think we thought the game was over and we just made sure at the beginning of the game that [we knew] this is the kind of game where you can never underestimate the team.

“Maybe after the penalty they just had the momentum. We came back which showed a good reaction but we conceded again from a set-piece is not the nicest way."

Asked whether Liverpool’s continued poor form is due to issues with their confidence, Szoboszlai replied: "I don't know - maybe you're right, but after 2-2 we showed a great reaction and showed our mentality.

“We knew we made a mistake by letting them come back to 2-2, but I have nothing to say about the result."

The Hungarian would not be drawn further on the effect the Reds’ bad run is having on the players, maintaining that “what is in the dressing room stays in the dressing room, it is not for the public.”

“We have to manage it, we have to find solutions.

“I can always come up with the opportunity on Tuesday [against Inter Milan] or on the weekend again [versus Brighton], but there are also time where you have to look at yourself. You have to go home and think if you did everything that was possible and if the answer is yes, then we just keep going and the momentum will come."

On the question of whether the team that won the Premier League title is “still in there”, Szoboszlai admitted: "It's a good question. It's hard to speak about it.

“Last year we became champions, now I don't even know what position we are. Every team is doing well, every team wants to win against the champions and we knew that before the season as well.

He reiterated: “We have to find solutions, we have to show reactions and everybody has to take responsibility. Not always the old guys or the guys that have been here longer... everybody. Everybody has to go on the pitch and show they are ready to fight for this badge."
