Ben Foster Makes Case for Jarrod Bowen Move

Liverpool have been encouraged to enter the race for Jarrod Bowen after former England goalkeeper Ben Foster backed the West Ham United captain as an ideal addition to the Reds’ attack.

According to TeamTalk, Foster believes Liverpool should seriously consider a move for Bowen amid growing speculation surrounding the forward’s future following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.

Bowen has established himself as one of the most consistent attacking players in English football since joining West Ham from Hull City in January 2020. The England international has amassed an impressive 85 goals and 63 assists in 280 appearances for the Hammers, underlining his importance to the London club over recent seasons.

With West Ham now facing life outside the top flight, uncertainty surrounds Bowen’s long-term future despite the player remaining under contract until 2030. Reports suggest several clubs are monitoring the situation, with Chelsea among those credited with strong interest.

Liverpool Could Benefit from Premier League Experience

While many Liverpool supporters may be focused on younger, emerging talents from abroad, Foster believes Bowen offers something equally valuable.

Speaking on the Fozcast podcast, Foster said: “I’d love to see him with Liverpool because I think he would do an absolutely fantastic job.

“He’s tried and tested and you know he’s going to do the job.”

Those comments reflect one of Bowen’s greatest strengths. Unlike many transfer targets who arrive with questions about how they will adapt to English football, Bowen has already demonstrated his quality at Premier League level over multiple seasons.

Liverpool are preparing for a new era, with significant changes expected under incoming manager Andoni Iraola. Recruitment decisions this summer could shape the club’s immediate future, and Bowen represents a player capable of making an instant impact rather than requiring a lengthy adjustment period.

His versatility across the front line would also provide Liverpool with valuable tactical flexibility. Whether deployed on the right wing, through the middle or in a more fluid attacking role, Bowen has repeatedly shown an ability to influence matches at the highest level.

Questions Over Replacing Mohamed Salah

Despite Foster’s enthusiasm, he acknowledged that some Liverpool fans may not immediately view Bowen as the glamorous signing they crave.

“But no, he’s not [going to be a like-for-like Mohamed Salah replacement] and I get the impression Liverpool fans would see it not as a progression, a sideways step,” Foster explained.

“They want the £90m player that plays for Inter Milan who is up and coming, who is Brazilian, who is this and that. That’s what they want.”

It is a fair observation. Modern transfer windows are often driven by excitement and potential rather than proven output. Yet Bowen’s record deserves serious attention.

The forward has consistently produced goals and assists while carrying significant responsibility at West Ham. His work rate, intelligence and ability to deliver in big moments have made him one of the Premier League’s most dependable attacking players.

For Liverpool, there is a compelling argument that reliability and experience could be just as important as untapped potential.

Summer Transfer Battle Could Intensify

Competition for Bowen’s signature is expected to increase as the transfer window progresses. Chelsea have reportedly admired the player for some time, while other Premier League clubs are likely to monitor developments closely.

Foster remains convinced that Bowen would thrive if given the opportunity at Liverpool.

As discussion continued on the podcast regarding the winger’s potential output at Anfield, Foster agreed with the suggestion that Bowen could score 15 league goals per season for the Reds.

“Agreed, totally agree. There are all sorts of players getting linked now, the merry-go-round has just started in fairness.”

Whether Liverpool ultimately pursue a deal remains to be seen, but Bowen’s credentials are difficult to ignore. Proven Premier League quality, leadership experience, consistent end product and tactical versatility make him one of the most attractive options potentially available this summer.

As Liverpool prepare for significant change, Jarrod Bowen may not be the headline-grabbing signing some supporters dream of. However, he could prove to be exactly the type of dependable performer capable of helping the club remain competitive at the highest level.
