Frimpong won’t just miss any fixtures but three of the most important all season long. The first Saturday against Aston Villa.
The way things are heading right now, Unai Emery’s team will be rivals for European places come the end of the season and it’s a difficult match as it is. Now Liverpool will be short at right-back for it.
Then Real Madrid will visit Anfield in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds could really use a win there as they’ll want to finish top eight and skip the play-off round - a task that will be difficult already given they lost 1-0 to Galatasaray.
After that is Manchester City away. No explanation needed for why that’s a big game.
The real problem, then, is that these games come back to back. Conor Bradley is now the only recognised right-back available at the senior level and he’s someone who’s battled injury and fitness problems himself.
It’s an awful lot to ask of anyone to play all three games in a row. The only way around that is to move the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai to right-back - something Slot won’t want to do. Especially as Liverpool aren’t exactly thriving in midfield right now and the Hungarian has been a rare bright spark in the middle recently.
So as we say, it’s nightmare timing for Slot as he tries to find some rhythm in his team. Liverpool are up against it every week right now as the defeats pile up - not having a full squad only makes matters worse.
