A change of manager is now expected at Anfield

Arne Slot is "on the verge" of being sacked by Liverpool, with Xabi Alonso ready to replace him at Anfield.

BILD report that Alonso is ready to take over at Liverpool and is now waiting for a "concrete" offer, with Slot heading for the exit door.

Slot's fate has seemingly been sealed after a 10th Premier League defeat of the season, coming against Brighton last weekend.

It is the first time Liverpool have lost 10 league games since the 2015/16 campaign. They have now lost more league games this season than the previous two combined.

Alonso is said to be confident his demands will be met by Liverpool, which "concerns his influence on squad planning" after struggles at Real Madrid to sign players he wanted.

The former Leverkusen head coach is said to have vowed not to "let that happen again". Slot does not currently have final say on transfers at Liverpool, but is said to have a close working relationship with sporting director Richard Hughes.

It remains to be seen when Slot would be dismissed, with Alonso reportedly unwilling to take over during a season. The reporting suggests that Slot is a sitting duck, with his fate already sealed despite Champions League qualification for next season still up for grabs.

Liverpool are also still in this season's Champions League, and face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals. PSG knocked Liverpool out of the same competition last season.

BILD add that Alonso is seen as the "best" coach to get their squad "firing on all cylinders".

The Independent add that Liverpool have no plans to sack Slot, despite a disappointing Premier League title defence, but there is an expectation that a change of managers will happen.
