It’s been a rough season for Liverpool on the injury front.

Right now they are without their first and second-choice goalkeepers as well as their right-back and several more performers besides. Hugo Ekitike for example will probably be out for a year following his achilles rupture.

But there is some good news on the injury front for one player at least.

Back in February midfielder Wataru Endo suffered a very bad leg injury in an away game at Sunderland. Indeed the 33-year-old had his season ended by the injury blow - which also threatend to scupper his 2026 FIFA World Cup dream.

But now the Japan captain has given an update on his injury status - confirming that he has already begun to run outdoors.

Furthermore the tireless midfielder has also pencilled in a recovery fixture - Japan’s pre-World Cup friendly against Iceland on May 31.

“I started running outside,” he tells Synchronous.

“It's been a month and a half since I returned to Liverpool from Japan. I'm truly grateful to the two Davids at Liverpool (Rehabilitation Physiotherapist Breen, David and Rehabilitation Fitness Coach Rydings, David) who have been helping me with my rehabilitation, working two days a week to pave the way for my return.”

Endo also made his long-awaited return to Anfield for the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain last week - adding that he was disappointed that the Reds’ European campaign was at an end.

“I went to Anfield for the first time in a while to watch my team play in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain,” he said.

“The result was truly disappointing. We had chances to change the score in the first half... I was reminded of the difficulty and high level of football.

“However, in my case, I received the "go signal" to go to matches, which had been prohibited due to the state of my injury, and as I mentioned at the beginning, I also started running outside.”
