Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: How will Arne Slot lineup his side?

Liverpool have the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table later today, as they travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. It will be a difficult test for Arne Slot’s side though, with Palace unbeaten in their last 17 games.

One of those being the penalty shootout victory over the Reds in the FA Community Shield at Wembley, following a 2-2 draw inside 90 minutes.

With Arsenal facing a tricky away trip to Newcastle United tomorrow, this weekend could be pivotal in the title race.

Slot has a strong squad to pick from for this one, so let’s take a look at how Liverpool could lineup.

Defence:

Alisson Becker will return to the starting lineup after missing the 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup. The centre-back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate will follow suit and return also.

At right-back, Conor Bradley is expected to return in place of Jeremie Frimpong. On the opposite side, Milos Kerkez will return in place of Andy Robertson.

Giovanni Leoni is the only defender unavailable for the game after picking up a serious ACL injury during the week.

Verdict: Alisson, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk (C), Kerkez

Midfield:

A number of midfielders were given the night off against Southampton and will be ready for returns today. Ryan Gravenberch has been in excellent form and will return to the starting lineup alongside Dominik Szoboszlai to form a double pivot.

After being benched against Everton and absent entirely on Tuesday, Florian Wirtz is expected to come back into the side in the number ten role.

Alexis Mac Allister could only find himself on the bench, which highlights the strength of this Liverpool squad at the moment.

Verdict: Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Wirtz

Attack:

Hugo Ekitike has enjoyed an electric start to life on Merseyside with five goals to his name already. However, the Frenchman will miss today’s game through suspension after picking up a stupid red card in the win over Southampton.

Therefore, Alexander Isak will make his first Premier League start for the club after scoring his first goal in the win over Southampton.

Mohamed Salah will keep his usual spot on the right-wing, but will be looking to improve on his performance from the Community Shield clash with Palace.

On the opposite flank, Cody Gakpo will come back into the side. 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha signed a new contract earlier this week and will be hoping for minutes from the bench.

Verdict: Salah, Isak, Gakpo

Starting XI: Alisson, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk (C), Kerkez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Salah, Isak, Gakpo

Bench: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Robertson, Frimpong, Endo, Mac Allister, Jones, Chiesa, Ngumoha
