Liverpool put their 100% record in the Premier League on the line this afternoon as they resume their season with a visit to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.

Since the Reds’ last match against Arsenal a fortnight ago, they’ve broken the British transfer record to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle in a £125m deal, and they also saw Crystal Palace pull the plug on a deadline day move for Marc Guehi.

On the pitch, Arne Slot’s side will be aiming to maintain their formidable record of scoring in every top-flight match since the 0-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest this day last year, and also preserving the perfect start to the domestic campaign.

With Liverpool’s squad now locked in until January, who has the head coach selected in our first match since the conclusion of the summer transfer window?

Liverpool starting XI to face Burnley

Slot has named the same starting XI as that which started the 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Reds’ previous fixture.

Alisson Becker offers a familiar presence in goal, and the back four ahead of him is also unchanged, with Dominik Szoboszlai keeping his place at right-back despite the return to fitness of Jeremie Frimpong, who returns to the bench.

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister pair up in midfield, with Florian Wirtz in the number 10 role. Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo line up in the wide attacking berths, and Hugo Ekitike keeps his place at centre-forward after a superb start to the season.

Despite having played his first 20 minutes of football since May in Sweden’s defeat to Kosovo last Monday, Isak doesn’t even make the matchday squad this afternoon, so the likeliest game-changers from the bench are Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha.
