Reds remain in hunt for Champions League qualification

Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Giorgi Mamardashvili after their deputy goalkeeper was stretchered off in the Merseyside derby last weekend.

The Georgian was replaced by third-choice stopper Freddie Woodman for the remainder of the game, which the Reds won 2-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Arne Slot has already been dealt numerous injury blows throughout the campaign, and just as his star summer signing Alexander Isak returned to full fitness from a broken leg, fellow new recruit Hugo Ekitike was ruled out for the season - and this summer’s World Cup - with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

There was more positive news on Thursday for the Liverpool boss as Alisson Becker, Wataru Endo and Joe Gomez all took part in team training, with Gomez the likeliest of the trio to feature against the Eagles this weekend.

Gomez has been out with a slight muscle injury, while Alisson has missed the last six matches with an undisclosed issue.

Endo was stretchered off against Sunderland earlier in the year with an ankle problem.

The other absentees this weekend for Liverpool are Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni, who are both out for the foreseeable with knee injuries.

As such, it doesn’t give Slot much flexibility from the side that emerged victorious in the derby last time out.

Should Alisson not be passed fit, that leaves only Woodman available in net.

Ahead of him, there is a conversation to be had at right-back after Curtis Jones was fielded in the role at the weekend, before Jeremie Frimpong was introduced there late on.

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk continue as the club’s only two recognised central defenders, while Andy Robertson got the nod over Milos Kerkez for the derby.

In midfield, Dominik Szoboszlai played alongside Ryan Gravenberch in the midfield pivot with Florian Wirtz ahead of them as the No10.

Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were either side of Alexander Isak in the final third.

Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Woodman; Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak

Doubts: Alisson, Gomez, Endo

Injured: Ekitike, Bradley, Leoni, Mamardashvili
